A premium twin-tower CPU air cooler concept

Featuring cable-free swappable components and flexible configurations, the project departs from the conventional gamer-centric design by adopting the sleek styling of the creator category, highlighting the premium positioning in the segment.

Background

Over the last few years, the CPU cooler landscape has evolved significantly, shifting its focus toward thermal improvements, product stability and mainstream adoption of the liquid-cooled AIOs (All-In-Ones)

As the market progresses, AIO design has evolved from using stylized covers to integrating small OLED displays as the space over the CPU is no longer required to dissipate heat.

Due to its customisability, this prime real estate in a build has quickly become a dedicated space for visual expression—a trait that has found its way back into air-cooled tower designs.

Objective

A rapid conceptual rendering that incorporates a wireless OLED display and bidirectional airflow support, based on a production-ready thermal solution.

“Exploring aesthetic possibilities for the new prime real estate through modular interchangeability”

The Design

Accumulative Aesthetic

Given the tight turnaround, the concept leverages previous CMF research, utilising dual-shot injection-moulded panels and IMD technique to achieve a dead-front aesthetic and maintain visual continuity.

Cable-free Display

The display is housed in a magnetic panel casing, interfacing with the main unit via pogo pins at 2 locations.

This interchangeable architecture enables display-specific configurations, reducing tooling overhead across the product range.

Furthermore, the module can be used for cross-platform integration within the PC ecosystem such as chassis, GPUs and coolers, offering standalone retail potential.

Modular Versatility

Also featuring a toolless design, the fan shrouds, heatsink covers and fans can be attached magnetically or mechanically, making configuration changes effortless.

Evaluation

Given the urgent nature of the project, it was necessary to prioritise certain design aspects over others.

While details like manufacturing optimisation, product-market fit and design validation remained unexplored, the project successfully exhibited key ideas and opened up new possibilities worth exploring.
